The Butterfly Children's Development Center, in partnership with the Lao Government and Health Frontiers, came to an end in 2013. After 11 years living and volunteering in the Lao PDR, Leila and I decided not to renew our project agreement through Health Frontiers with the Lao Government. We have been volunteering in other countries and traveling to international medical conferences around the world. We have returned to Laos four times to visit all the friends we left behind. It has been a privilege to have had such a rewarding experience in Muang Sing and we would like to thank everyone who made it possible.
We will keep our promises and continue to support the deaf students, the blind student, the secondary school student, and the two university students until they finish their present level of education. We are continuing our relationship with Health Frontiers, and they will help distribute funds directly to our scholarship students. A previous scholarship student has agreed to be responsible for the blind student and one of the deaf children's fathers has already taken on the responsibility to take all the deaf children to the deaf school. It is wonderful that the blind and deaf students are able to continue their education. Thank you very much for continuing to support these students!
We were located in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Luang Namtha Province, Muang Sing District. We helped our community by hosting the Butterfly Children's Development Center for after school and weekend activities. We built a five classroom school building for the government primary school in our village. We offer scholarships to deserving students and help blind and deaf students. We also helped children and their families with medical problems and volunteered at the district and provincial hospitals.
